Individual discovered consequences following road accident fatality of a youthful woman, occurring in 2023
In a courtroom filled with emotion, Joseph Valles, the driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident, was sentenced on Friday. The victim was 19-year-old Corina Samuels, who was hit and killed near Ashlan and Valentine avenues in October 2023.
Valles, visibly emotional, appeared in court with tears in his eyes. He was sentenced to 272 days in jail and two years of probation. According to reports, his attorney spoke about the emotional toll he's endured.
The victim's older sister, Beatriz Montell, described the incident as heartbreaking. She shared emotional testimonies in court, expressing the profound impact of her sister's loss. Montell feels a sense of relief knowing that Valles will serve jail time.
Montell has joined a support group called Families for Safe Streets to help cope with her grief. She urges drivers and pedestrians to always be mindful of their surroundings. It was noted that on the night of the incident, Corina Samuels was not in a crosswalk when she was hit.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the family saw their sister on the ground after the incident, and everything changed. Valles expressed remorse and wanted to tell the victim's family how sorry he is.
After the verdict was handed down, Valles was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom. Montell, who has found solace in Families for Safe Streets, is grateful for the support they've provided.
